由于抗生素可用于治疗各种感染性疾病，有的人就将抗生素作为万能药，不管得了什么病，都用抗生素治疗。要知道，滥用抗生素，可引起许多不良的后果。因此强调合理使用抗生素，重视抗生素的毒副作用是很有必要的。那么，该如何合理使用抗生素呢？
1. 一定要有严格的用药指征。病毒感染或非细菌性发热，应视为抗生素使用的禁忌症。
2. 如能检出细菌，最好做药敏试验，选用最敏感的抗生素。
3. 用药量要足，还要保障坚持按疗程用药，但如系老年人、儿童、孕妇、体弱消瘦和肝、肾功能不好者，则抗生素的剂量和用药时间要酌减。
4.必要时可联合用药。其指征是：病情特别严重，如败血症或化脓性脑膜炎等。联合用药的品种不宜过多，一般以两种为宜，并且一定要在医生的指导下使用。
